By Lisa Regopoulos (Fitchburg, MA)
“Refuge”, is a pastel painting that was inspired by a trip to Crane’s Beach in Ipswich, MA. The title, “Refuge” has a dual meaning. These dunes are among the world’s most important nesting sites for piping plovers, which is a threatened bird which was hunted almost to extinction for it’s eggs and feathers.
There are signs indicating to stay off the dunes because of this important nesting ground. The dunes are a safe haven for these threatened birds. The dunes also symbolize for me a refuge from the fast paced world, in which we live.
I want to capture these dunes before they are gone forever and want the paintings to reveal to the viewer the emotional response the scene had on me.
