California Native

California Native strives to be a positive and timely source of  information related to issues that not only affect California and its residents, but the environment in which we live, work and play. Through building community connections with grassroots organizations, and non-profits we continue to promote the unique environment and spectacular surroundings that we share as California Natives. Our goal is to continue to provide a daily source of relevant information, in order to educate and inform residents on critical issues relevant to all Californians.

 

Adopt a Ranger Program

National Parks and reserves everywhere need custodians to take care and protect these precious lands.  Typically, that work is done by Park Rangers.

However, there are many places in the world that can not afford to hire rangers. According to the Adopt A Ranger Foundation about 150,000 rangers are needed worldwide for the protected areas in developing and transitions countries.

According to Adopt a Ranger this ranger deficit is one of the most limiting factors in effectively protecting nature in 75% of the world. Adopt a Ranger contributes to solving this problem by fund raising to finance rangers in the field. It will also help governments in developing and transition countries to assess realistic staffing needs and staffing strategies.

Sierra Club

The Sierra Club is one of the oldest, largest, and most influential grassroots environmenta organizations in the United States. It was founded on May 28, 1892, in San Francisco California, by the conservationist and preservationist John Muir, who became its first president. The Sierra Club has hundreds of thousands of members in chapters located throughout the United States and is affiliated with Sierra Club Canada

The mission of the Sierra Club is to explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth; To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth’s ecosystems and resources; To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives.

Wilderness.net

Wilderness.net is a public wilderness information website formed in 1996, providing abundant resources, information and links about our protected wild places.“Wilderness is the land that was – wild land beyond the frontier…land that shaped the growth of our nation and the character of its people. Wilderness is the land that is – rare, wild places where one can retreat from civilization, reconnect with the Earth, and find healing, meaning and significance.” (Wilderness.net)

In 1964, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Wilderness Act into Law, defining wilderness as areas, where the earth and its communities of life are left unchanged by people. Wilderness.net is launching Wilderness50, a nationwide celebration of the 50 year Anniversary of the U.S. Wilderness System in 2014.

We will launch a 2014 “Paint The Wilderness Campaign” in support  Many wilderness areas exist inside national parks, national wildlife refuges and national forests.

Parks For Us All

Parks For Us All was formed in 2012 in the Adelaide Hills in South Australia, and promotes the sharing, beauty and protection of public parks and natural heritage.  PFUA aims to encourage all park users to respect the fauna, flora and people who use the parks and behave respectfully towards each other and the environment we are fortunate to be able to visit.

PFUA provides an abundance of beautiful images, information, events and resources on parks in Australia as well as worldwide.

Parks for Us All ~ South Australia

PARKS FOR US ALL has joined our Quest!  We are excited to welcome our first artists from Australia on board. The Parks For Us All PARKS Page has art work from artists who are new and emerging artists working in any medium, and have visited nature parks for their inspiration.These artists hope to have their art inspire others to raise awareness of our natural environment.

See America (by Creative Action Network & National Parks Conservation Association)

Artists, a great opportunity to create your own American Parks Poster! Over 75 years after the government first commissioned posters to showcase the country’s most stunning natural features under the banner: “See America,” The Creative Action Network (CAN), in collaboration with the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), has set out to do it again: launching a new version of See America, a crowd-sourced art campaign, enlisting artists from all 50 states to create a collection of artwork celebrating our national parks and other treasured sites.

Three Hours North:Oil Painting in the White Mountains and Northern New England

Please visit this wonderful show by PaintTheParks artist Nancy Griswold. 10% of the proceeds of designated park oil paintings will be donated to The Appalachian Trail Conservancy in New England.

 

Painting our Parks

This show to benefit Calfornia Parks was held September 17, 2012 – January 18 2013 ~ , by our local group, the Santa Cruz Oil Painters Curated by Joan Blackmer.

Our local Santa Cruz Oil Painters group hosted an exciting of show of Parks Paintings at all Branches of the Santa Cruz County Bank’s Art Collaborative .

Thank you so much to Mary Anne Carson of Santa Cruz County Bank and her team, and to Michele Hausman of SCOP, for organizing this great exhibit!

20% of sales made during this exhibition was donated to the parks.

Painting our Parks, featured over 100 plein air paintings of County, State and National Parks in California, from the quiet beauty of the pond at Quail Hollow, the grandeur of the rocky coast at Garrapata, to the majestic cliffs of Yosemite. The paintings were produced by fourteen Santa Cruz artists, all members of the Santa Cruz Oil Painters. Their images have captured the magic and the treasure of California’s natural beauty, preserved for all by our State Parks.

Artists’ Reception: 5:30-7:30pm on Thursday, September 27th Santa Cruz County Bank, 720 Front Street, Santa Cruz. Meet the artists, purchase artwork and network with other art lovers.

Aldo & Leonardo ~ A Wilderness Science and Art Collaboration

Want to spend a month painting and collaborating with scientists in pristine nature? Colorado Art Ranch and the Aldo Leopold Wilderness Research Institute are hosting one-month art residencies in six different wilderness biomes throughout the United States and Puerto Rico rainforest. Artists will be collecting data with researchers and creating their own work in response.
